Her Background
Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, born Caroline Gerhardinger in 1797 in Bavaria, Germany, was a visionary educator inspired by the needs of the time. Committed to the education of young girls and the transformation of society through Christian education, she founded the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1833. Her work emphasized unity, the dignity of the individual, and the importance of faith in action.
Our History
The School Sisters of Notre Dame were founded in 1833 in Bavaria, Germany by Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger. Committed to transforming the world through education, the sisters have expanded globally to serve in various ministries, rooted in their charism of unity and service to those most in need.
